Brightoil Petroleum (Holdings) Limited (Brightoil) says its use of Mass Flow Meter (MFM) technology in Singapore has not only improved efficiency, it has reduced quantity disputes "significantly."

Brightoil, ranked as Singapore's 23rd largest supplier by volume for 2015 by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), says that so far it has fitted three of its five bunkering barges with MPA approved MFMs.

"This achievement received praise and recognition from world class ship owners which enhanced bunkering efficiency and significantly reduced complaints and disputes arising from quantitative differences," Brightoil wrote in its latest year end report.

"The Group is anticipating the approval of certification for another 2 barges from the Singapore authority which will further strengthen the Group's supply capability."

From January 1, 2017 mass flow meters will become mandatory for MFO bunkering in Singapore - the first port in the world to make such a move.

The topic is expected to be a key point of discussion at SIBCON this week.
