Brightoil Petroleum (Holdings) Limited (Brightoil) has announced it is establishing an e-commerce company that will make use of the company's existing infrastructure in the oil and gas industry.

The plans reportedly fall in line with the Chinese government's industrial policy, which the company said "encourages the development of internet technology for traditional industries."

It was noted that plans are still in the conceptual stage, but will aim at using Brightoil's network of oil storages, terminals, and ocean tankers to create new avenues of business on the internet, as well as providing new services to customers.

Is is understood the new company will be set up in Qianhai, Shenzhen.

Earlier this year, the company reported that its bunkering business had achieved "steady growth" in the latter half of 2014.
