Bunkering Set to be Affected as Greek Port Workers Launch Third Set of 48 Hour Strike Action
Bunkering at Greek ports looks set to be affected once again as workers were set to begin a third set 48 hour strike action at 6 a.m. local time on Thursday, Greek news reports.
It is reported that the first 24 hours of stoppage will see Greek port workers join a general nation-wide strike, intended to protest proposed changes to pensions, labor rights, insurance, and retirement age.
Five ports including Piraeus, are set to continue strike action for a further 24 hours following the general strike.
The Towage and Salvage Crew Union of Piraeus, which has confirmed planned participation in the strike from 6 a.m. on February 4, until 6 a.m. on February 5, says it is also planning a 4 hour stoppage on February 5.
During the strike action, vessels at affected ports will be unable to berth, shift, or sail from port, says Inchcape Shipping Services.
The strike is scheduled to end on Friday at 6 a.m. local time.
The second strike had affected the ports of Piraeus, Aspropyrgos, Eleusis, Pachi, and Megara, starting on Wednesday January 27, 2016 at 6 a.m. local time and running until Friday at 6 a.m.
