CMA CGM Takes Delivery of Eco-Ship
CMA CGM has taken delivery of new eco-ship CMA CGM TIGRIS, the fourth in a new fleet of 28 vessels between 9,400 TEU to 10,900 TEU, the company announced.
Along with other environmental technologies, the ship is outfitted with an energy-efficient bulbous bow, which will purportedly improve hydrodynamics at speeds between 16 to 18 knots, said CMA.
The ships in the fleet were built in collaboration with Chinese shipyards New Times Shipbuildings, CIMC Group, and CMA CGM experts, with the remaining vessels to be delivered by the third quarter of 2016.
CMA said that the CMA CGM TIGRIS will be a Malta-flagged chartered bareboat, and will follow a route which takes it between South America and East Asia.
"With a capacity of 1458 reefer plugs 40', which is the largest so far on such a ship, the CMA CGM TIGRIS embodies the Group's ambition to be a leader in this growing market," said the company.
CMA is also in the midst of retrofitting its mid-size containerships in an attempt to save 5 percent in fuel costs.
