Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking Cruises, says reducing its bunker bill is a major consideration for its first ocean cruise ship, the MV Viking StarTTG Digital reports.

"One big area that we focus on is fuel savings" Hagan said during a recent question and answer session with media.

"The ship's design is long with a bulbous front, which automatically gives us a three to five percent saving in fuel costs.

"We also have special propellers tied to the rudders which helps to save fuel costs," Hagan added.

The 930 passenger Viking Star is set to enter service in the Baltic and Mediterranean later this year.

Viking Cruises recently announced that its growth is expected to continue with two more ocean cruise ships under construction set to join the Viking Star.

In February, Viking Cruises said it was seeing a "favourable effect on earnings" from low bunker prices.
