Istanbul-based Energy Petrol AS (Energy Petrol) has added another double-hulled bunker barge to its fleet, the supplier has told Ship & Bunker.

The 1,750 dwt M/T Demre 6 is said to be the company's fourth newbuild double-hulled barge, and comes as part of a barge renewal programme in line with regulations to phase out single-hull tankers in Turkey by January 1, 2016.

The newbuild joins double hulled barges M/T Demre 2, M/T Demre 3, and M/T Demre 4.

"We are proud of providing high quality, fast, efficient, and very on time service to our clients and our new barges will increase our performance," said Energy Petrol founder and CEO Mustafa Muhtaroglu.

The company has a total fleet of 11 barges including the biggest bunker barge in Istanbul, the 3,659 dwt MT DENÄ°Z M.

Muhtaroglu says there are 5 physical suppliers operating around 55 barges in the Bosphorus region, 15 to 20 of which will need to be replaced in line with the new regulations.

The move also comes at a time of growth for the supplier, and Muhtaroglu noted that Energy Petrol achieved 20 percent growth in the first half of 2015.

He estimates the market's total annual sales at around 2 million metric tonnes (mt).
