Portuguese dock worker union, Sindicato dos Estivadores, Trabalhadores do Tráfego e Conferentes Marítimos (SETC) wants to extend its current strike action until June 16, and has also arranged for a demonstration on that day.

The union has already agreed to strike action from May 12 until May 27, if no agreements can be reached.

SETC says the work stoppage will affect all types of work involving movement of cargo at all Lisbon terminals, as well as the ports of Setúbal and Figueira Da Foz, and as such could see bunkering impacted from any resulting congestion.

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, the strike action is said to be intended to influence the settlement of a new collective bargaining agreement between port workers and operators.
