A German shipowner has ordered exhaust gas cleaning systems for four RoRo vessels, according to Alfa Laval, which will supply the scrubbers.

The company did not name the customer but said the deal is worth about SEK 75 million ($11.4 million), with delivery scheduled for 2015.

The scrubbers are a hybrid system capable of switching between open and closed loop configurations for operational flexibility.

"I am very pleased to announce yet another scrubber order," said President and CEO Lars Renström.

"The fact that it comes from a new customer confirms our system's reliability and performance in reducing sulphur oxide, be it for retrofits or for installation onboard new vessels."

While most European shipowners plan to switch to marine gas oil (MGO) bunkers to comply with new rules for Emissions Control Areas (ECAs), some, including DFDS and Finnlines, have chosen to equip their vessels with scrubbers instead.

Finnlines is using Wärtsilä scrubber systems, while DFDS also purchased units from Alfa Laval.
