Ship leasing company Seaspan Corp. [NYSE:SSW] (Seaspan) says it has exercised options for four more containerships using its fuel-efficient SAVER design

The 10,000 twenty-foot equivalent (TEU) vessels will be built at Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. and Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. with delivery scheduled for 2016.

Seaspan says it plans to sign long-term time charters for the ships with a major container line "in the near future."

The vessels are subject to a right of first refusal agreement with Greater China Intermodal Investments LLC.

The company recently received its first SAVER-design containership, which it leased to Hanjin Shipping Co. Ltd. on a 10-year fixed-rate time charter, and it expects to add four more such vessels to its operating fleet this year.
