The parent company of Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), Orient Overseas (International) (OOIL), has ordered six new 20,000 TEU mega-containerships, IHS Maritime 360 reports

The deal is reportedly worth $951.6 million, with the ships built by South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).

According to company filings, a bank loan is expected to finance 70 percent of the purchase, with the remaining 30 percent coming from "internal resources."

The ships are slated for a 2017 delivery.

OOIL and OOCL join a small but growing list of companies who are looking to place orders for 20,000 TEU mega-ships, which are expected to help cut operating costs.

Early this year, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that it did so in hopes of revitalizing its container business, while CMA CGM was reported earlier this month as looking into ordering at least three of the ships.
