TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH (TÜV SÜD) has announced its offering of support services for shipping companies in complying with the European Union's (EU's) Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV), including the inspection and verification of monitoring concepts and emission reports.

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, the MRV regulation will require shipping companies to submit ship-specific monitoring plans to verifiers for approval by the end of the August 2017, with per-voyage monitoring set to start on January 1, 2018.

"As an accredited inspection body in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14065, we provide shipping companies with independent and impartial support in implementing the Regulation," said Johann Schmidt, head of the Verification Department / VS-THG at TÜV SÜD.

TÜV SÜD says it has extensive experience in emissions verification and emission report evaluation, with its experts assigned to inspect about 15 percent of Germany's stationary plants.

The company further notes that it oversees a global network of expertise for implementation of the (EU) 2015/757 Regulation and associated tasks.
