Finalists Announced for the 2015 Ship Efficiency Awards
Maritime eco-efficiency specialists Fathom have announced the shortlisted finalists for this year's Ship Efficiency Awards.
Fathom has listed four to five finalists within each of the five award categories, which include the Energy Efficiency Solution Award, the Environmental Technology Award, Initiative of the Year, Sustainable Ship Operator of the Year, and the One to Watch.
The finalists include the recently launched International Windship Association (IWSA), which Ship & Bunker reported as its launch last November aims to be an advocate for the development of wind propulsion solutions.
"We are honoured to be selected as a finalist in the 'Initiative of the Year' category alongside these other worthy initiatives. This has been a big year for the association and the development of wind propulsion in general and being selected as a finalist will encourage us to redouble our efforts in the future."
Now in its second year, Fathom said the Ship Efficiency Awards have seen a 60 percent increase in nominations, with 95 nominations across the five award categories received.
The judging proceedings this year, which were chaired by Katharine Palmer, Environmental Manager from Lloyd's Register, included Lars Robert Pedersen from BIMCO, Craig Eason from Lloyd's List, Oskar Levander with Rolls Royce, Tristan Smith of UCL, and Roger Strevens of Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
"Although these awards are relatively new to the industry, an independent, highly-reputed judging panel equipped with rigorous judging criteria for six different award categories have ensured that these awards are acknowledged as a significant recognition for excellence in efficient operations, technological innovation and energy efficiency throughout the shipping industry," said Fathom.
Award winners will be presented at a Lloyd's Register-hosted ceremony on September 9, part of Ship Efficiency: The Event 2015.
Last year, Fathom announced the launch of the inaugural Ship Efficiency Awards, saying it was event dedicated to recognising excellence in efficient operations, technological innovation, and energy efficiency within the maritime industry.
