Ardmore Takes Delivery of Eco-Vessel with Skysails System

Ardmore Shipping Corporation has taken delivery of a 49,999 DWT product and chemical tanker equipped with various fuel-saving systems including a Skysails voyage optimisation software, the company has announced

The Ardmore Seafox was built by South Korea's SPP Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, and is the second of four newbuilds expected to be delivered from SPP Shipbuilding this year. 

“We are delighted to welcome the Ardmore Seafox to our rapidly expanding operating fleet during a time when the charter market for modern MR product and chemical tankers remains at multi-year highs," said CEO Anthony Gurnee in a statement.

According to the company, the Ardmore Seafox is equipped with various optimization systems including the SkySails Performance Manager.

The new vessel reportedly brings the company's fleet up to 20 vessels, which together have an an average age of around four-and-a-half years. 

"The addition of the Ardmore Seafox realises our continued commitment to incorporating high quality, modern and efficient vessels to our fleet," said COO Mark Cameron

It was previously reported in 2013 that eco-ships have in the past helped propel the revenues.
