Total Lubmarine (Lubmarine) on Monday said in an emailed press release it has introduced a new lubricant, TALUSIA LS 25, specifically designed for slow speed two stroke engines running distillate fuels with a 0.10 percent sulfur content.

Announced during this year's SMM in Hamburg, Lubmarine said TALUSIA LS 25 has already received two NOLs from MAN Diesel & Turbo and Wärtsilä, who have each confirmed the lubricant as suitable for use in two stroke engines.

A Shipping Watch survey earlier this year indicated most shipping companies will use distillate fuels with a maximum sulfur content of 0.10 percent to comply with the tightening Emissions Control Areas (ECAs) regulations that go into effect on January 1, 2015.

"TALUSIA LS 25 is an innovative solution for ship operators looking for a reliable lubricant specifically designed to meet the challenging requirements of running engines, including the latest generation of crosshead two stroke engines, on distillate fuel," said Global Marketing Manager Serge Dal Farra.

"TALUSIA LS 25 will protect engines by offering excellent cleanliness thanks to its low-ash chemistry."

Lubmarine said TALUSIA LS 25 will be available throughout major shipping hubs worldwide in late October of this year.

"Whilst our latest lubricants will ensure that ship operators can comply with [ECA regulations with] whatever fuel they choose to use, we believe that modern chemistry is the key to a long-term solution for the marine industry and our laboratories are at the forefront of research in this area," said Dal Farra.

This past May, Dal Farra discussed lubricant purchasing decisions for ship owners and operators, including the future for lubricants and the new selection guidelines.
