Spain's Compañía Española de Petróleos, S.A.U. (CEPSA) today announced the release of three new marine lubricants aimed at meeting emissions focused operational needs.

"These new lubricants come at a time when there are new fuel qualities available and ships must change fuel and lubricants depending on the voyage they are undertaking," said CEPSA.

"The products allow engines to adapt to new legislation that aims to improve the control over emissions.

"The new lubricants allow engines to produce power more effectively with lower fuel consumption ratios."

Cespa says that the development of the new lubricants, GAVIA 7050, GAVIA 2550, and CICONIA 30, "was aimed at providing shipowners with the right choice of lubricants both technically and economically."

GAVIA 7050 lubricant is said to be intended for engines using fuel with a 1 to 3.5 percent sulfur content, while GAVIA 2550 is for ships navigating in Emission Control Areas (ECAs) where fuel with no more than a 0.10 percent sulfur content is required.

CICONIA 30 is designed for the entire range of two-stroke engines, and suitable for lubricating and cooling bearings.

"The three products are made using high quality base oils and specific additives that provide a high heat resistance, as well as better protection against corrosion generated by sulphur in the fuel," said CEPSA.

Last week it was reported that CEPSA has signed a deal with Quadrise Fuels International plc (Quadrise) to trial supplying the alternative marine fuel supplier's synthetic MSAR fuel to Maersk Line ships.
