Lloyd's Register (LR) Friday announced that, through verification by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance Limited (LRQA), Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has extended their greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting to container terminals, specifically Long Beach Container Terminal, LLC in the U.S. and Kaohsiung Container Terminal in Taiwan.

"We believe the data disclosure and verification being extended to our terminals is an excellent example of OOCL's commitment to sustainability in the global supply chain," said Stephen Ng, Director of Trades of OOCL.

"Looking forward, we will continue to take progressive steps to further enhance our information management of key environmental and emission indicators that will be essential towards strengthening our sustainability profile and broadening our GHG reporting scope in the future."

LR says OOCL ensures that its GHG emission reporting standards are consistent through the annual certification of their environmental data by an independent assurance service provider, with OOCL having used LR verification for this since 2014.

"OOCL continues to set an excellent example of leadership in relation to GHG reporting and disclosure by consistently increasing the scope of their verification which underpins their transparent and committed approach to sustainability," said John Rowley, Managing Director of LRQA and Inspection Services at LR.

Last year, Ship & Bunker reported that OOCL, driven partly by more than $100 million in bunker savings, had achieved a more than 400 percent year on year increase in operating profit for its Container Transport and Logistics segment.
