Fincantieri S.p.A. (Fincantieri) has announced the launch of the energy-efficient Carnival Horizon, a newbuild set for delivery to Carnival Cruise Line.

Fincantieri says the 133,500 gross tonne (GT) vessel will feature the "most advanced technologies for energy saving and for meeting the strictest environmental regulations with energy-efficient engines and an exhaust gas cleaning system."

The vessel was launched in a ceremony on Friday at Fincantieri's shipyard in Marghera, Italy.

Carnival Horizon is scheduled for its maiden voyage on April 2, 2018.

Last month, Carnival Corporation & plc (Carnival) announced that it had completed the installation and certification of exhaust gas cleaning systems on 60 ships across its brands - a development said to represent a $400 million investment to date.
