DNV GL Monday announced that, along with paint manufacturer Jotun Group (Jotun), it is inviting industry stakeholders to attend the second Hull Performance & Insight Conference (HullPIC), which the two companies will be hosting at Germany's Castle Ulrichshusen, from March 27 to 29, 2017.

The companies say that through the event they aim to "spur development and raise awareness for hull performance monitoring."

The conference agenda will include discussion on the ISO 19030 standard for hull and propeller performance, as well as common challenges and solutions intended to help shipowners realise potential bunker savings.

"We look forward to welcoming industry stakeholders to Castle Ulrichshusen," said Geir Axel Oftedahl, Director of Business Development at Jotun Marine.

"Our first HullPIC conference last year was a great success. In March we will pick up where we left off and I expect the new ISO standard will give us much to discuss, among other things."

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published ISO 19030 in November.

The document sets standards and methods for measuring hull and propeller performance, and defines performance indicators for hull and propeller maintenance, repair, and retrofit activities.

"HullPIC is a great place to share operational experience and discuss challenges within hull performance and performance monitoring," said Volker Bertram, Senior Project Manager for DNV GL – Maritime's Competence, Learning & Academy.

"The balance between shipowners and developers at the conference allows for an open exchange where both sides benefit."

In December, Ship & Bunker reported that Stein Kjølberg, Global Sales Director for Jotun's Hull Performance Solutions (HPS) has said the new ISO 19030 standard comes at a time when performance monitoring is "very much in vogue."
