TOTE Inc. will unify its two subsidiaries, Sea Star Line and Totem Ocean Trailer Express under one name called TOTE Maritime, the company announced in a statement carried by Marine Log.

Sea Star Line serves the Puerto Rico trade, while Totem Ocean Trailer Express serves Alaska

The move comes ahead of the company's widely publicised shift to using liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkers, with the name change expected to help the company's marketing activities.

"This is a key component of the TOTE LNG strategy and is a reflection of our commitment to the island and the communities we serve," said Tim Nolan, President of Sea Star.

"The shift to TOTE Maritime enables us to highlight the changes we are making nationally."

In separate reports, Nolan said that the name change had been in progress for quite some time, adding that the company hopes for a "seamless" transition.

"We have a brand identity," he said.

"And we want to grow beyond into one unified organization."

Earlier this year, the company launched two of the world's first LNG-powered containerships for the Puerto Rico-to-Florida route, with the first having been launched in April and the second having been launched earlier this month
