Court Orders Ship Owner to Pay Bunker Suppliers
A Malta court has ordered a ship connected with Taiwanese ship owner Today Makes Tomorrow (TMT) to pay €617,279 ($836,226) to creditors including four bunker suppliers, the Malta Independent reports.
The ship A Ladybug was brought to court by Macquire Bank Limited, Salvo Grima & Sons Limited, San Lucian Oil Company Limited, Island Bunker Oils Limited, and Cassar Petroleum Services Limited.
The bank said it had paid €70,362 ($95,319) for unpaid work done by 12 crew members on the vessel, along with €123,435 (167,221) to the Transport Authority, €74,950 ($101,537) for the ship to anchor in Malta, and €48,485 ($65,681) for the provision of "emergency bunker fuel."
The other four parties sought payment for fuel and water they had supplied to the ship.
Judge Mark Chetcuti ordered the ship to pay the requested funds.
In a separate case, another judge ordered a different TMT ship, B Ladybug, to pay €43,152 ($58,455) to sailors who had not been paid for their work.
TMT and its creditors have been engaged in court battles since the company filed for bankruptcy last June.
Lloyd's List reported in January that a judge overseeing TMT's bankruptcy proceedings had granted a request by Macquarie Bank to take control of the A Ladybug.
