First LNG Bunker Barge in North America Set for February Launch
Clean Marine Energy LLC (CME) Thursday in an emailed press release announced that the first liquified natural gas (LNG) bunker barge in North America is scheduled to be launched in February 2016.
CME is said to have made the official announcement at a December 9 tour event hosted by the US Coast Guard (USCG) and Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) at Conrad Shipyard in Orange, Texas, which included approximately 200 industry partners.
The 2,200 m3 barge will feature Gaztransport & Technigaz's (GTT's) LNG Mark III Flex cargo containment system, is reported to be scheduled for installation immediately following the vessel's launch.
The bunker barge is said to be set for delivery to Jacksonville, Florida during 2016's third quarter, where it will be used to bunker LNG-powered vessels in the Port of Jacksonville and Southeast areas.
Further, CME says it has partnered with WesPac Midstream LLC (WesPac) and Pivotal LNG (Pivotal), to own and operate JAX LNG, a small scale liquefaction facility in the port of Jacksonville.
The company explains that the plant is set to be commissioned during 2017's first quarter, and is intended to provide LNG along the Florida and Georgia coasts.
In November, Ship & Bunker reported that CME provided LNG bunkering services to TOTE's newly delivered Isla Bella, the world's first LNG-powered container ship.
