Clean Energy Fuels Corp (Clean Energy) says it "participated in a little history" last month by providing liquid natural gas (LNG) bunkering services to TOTE Maritime's (TOTE) newly delivered Isla Bella, the world's first LNG-powered container ship.

The LNG is reported to have been delivered from Clean Energy's Boron, California liquefaction plant.

"As the maritime industry begins its transition to LNG, Clean Energy is able to bring our many years of fueling services to ensure an easy and seamless transition," said Andrew J. Littlefair, Clean Energy's president and CEO.

"We applaud NASSCO and TOTE as world leaders in the introduction of the clean fuel to the commercial shipping industry.

"The use of natural gas is continuing to expand across the various transportation sectors and is the best choice economically and environmentally," added Littlefair.

Clean Energy notes that it will also be providing bunkering services next month to Isla Bella's sister ship, the Perla Del Caribe.

In October, General Dynamics NASSCO announced that the Isla Bella was delivered nearly two months ahead of schedule to TOTE.
