Carnival Returning to Virginia
Six months after announcing that it was leaving the U.S. port of Norfolk, Virginia due in part to emissions rules, Carnival Cruise Lines says it will return to the port in 2015, local newspaper the Virginia Pilot reports.
"I can confirm that Carnival Cruise Lines is returning to Norfolk in 2015 to operate a series of cruises in the spring and fall," Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen said in a statement.
"Specific ship, date and itinerary information is still being finalized and more specific details are expected to be announced this spring."
The line will run 12 to 15 cruises.
The company announced in June that it would not operate from Norfolk or Baltimore, Maryland in 2014, citing the additional fuel costs created by the limit on the sulfur content of bunkers in the North American Emissions Control Area (ECA), which is set to drop to 0.10 percent in 2015.
It said it was redeploying the Carnival Glory to Miami, a location closer to the edge of the ECA.
