VPS Wednesday gave its endorsement of the new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Surveyor's work when using mass flow meters (MFM), which was released yesterday by the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA).

With the use of MFMs for MFO bunkering in Singapore set to become mandatory in Singapore from January 1, 2017, VPS said it had been working closely with IBIA to develop the SOP.

"VPS has been in the forefront of bunker quantity surveying work since we started this service 30 years ago. During this time, we have completed in excess of 80,000 surveys in over 200 international ports," said VPS.

"We will strongly encourage the shipping industry to use this SOP for monitoring MFM delivery in Singapore and other ports of call. This will support the correct operational use of the MFM and most importantly provide the necessary evidence in dispute resolution."

VPS also noted it also provides bunker surveys with own in-house surveyors in the key ports of Singapore, Fujairah, Rotterdam, and Houston where its offices and laboratories are based, as well as covering all other bunker ports.

As Ship & Bunker reported yesterday, the SOP project was initiated by Capt Rahul Choudhuri of VPS when he took over as Chairman of the Executive Committee for IBIA in Asia in February this year.
