Malaysian bunker player Tumpuan Megah Development Sdn Bhd (TMD) Saturday expanded its business by beginning operations at Labuan Port, New Straits Times reports.

Operations at Labuan are being conducted by a new subsidiary, TMD Bunker Labuan Sdn Bhd, and take TMD's business beyond its hub in Kemaman where it has operated since 2010.

TMD counts five vessels within its fleet and this year also began operations at Pasir Gudang, Johor.

The company's founder, Tan Sri Dr Jason Goh Teck Chai, said it had a strategic alliance with Labuan Port's operator, which is a subsidiary of Sabah Energy Corp Sdn Bhd.

"Many ship operators at Labuan Port are also our customers at Kemaman Port and this directly opens up more opportunities for the company," said Goh, suggesting that Labuan Port sees over three times the traffic that Kemaman does.

According to the report, Goh said TMD's current supply capacity is 10 million litres per month, but the company hopes to increase this to 25 million litres as business at Labuan Port develops.

Earlier this year, Malaysia's Bintulu Port said it would be adding bunkering facilities as part of an expansion and improvement effort.
