Malaysia's Bintulu Port will add bunkering facilities as part of an expansion and improvement effort, the Borneo Post reports.

Port CEO Dato Mior Ahmad Baiti Mior Lub Ahmad said a new supply base terminal to be developed in the near future will also include a passenger lounge, storage area, passenger terminal, and fresh water supply.

"The provision of new facilities and equipment to meet the operational needs are reviewed from time to time," he said.

Speaking at the port's annual customer appreciation day, Mior said the port is focusing immediately on improving its cargo handling operation.

"Your requirements become our inspiration to always reach further and perform better," he said.

He added that the port is also switching to a new terminal operation data tool from Navis System to support smoother operations.

Mior also said the development of Bintulu's new Samalaju Industrial Port Sdn Bhd is moving forward, with plans for two barge berths, a ro-ro ramp, and a 320 meter wharf with a seven-metre draft and a maximum vessel capacity of 8,000 tonnes.

The port is also planning an additional 25 tanks for palm oil storage.

Officials said last month that the Samalaju Industrial Port should start operations in April and be fully completed in 2016, the New Sarawak Tribune reported.
