Cargo ship Union Demeter, which last December was arrested in Haldia Port as a result of the ship owner's outstanding bunker bills, will return to China.

Crew manager Nanjing Yuan Teng Shipping says the release of the ship has been possible because bankrupt owner Nanjing-based Tranvast Holdings Limited (Tranvast) has been able to settle the outstanding fuel costs and the crew's salary, according to a report by Splash 24/7.

As Ship & Bunker reported earlier in the week, 23 Chinese crew members have been stranded onboard Union Demeter since she was detained in December, and had begun to run out of food and water.
