The Panamax box ship SCI Chennai Tuesday was arrested at 6:15pm local time in Singapore, according to records from the Supreme Court of Singapore.

The move follows an action by local law firm Oon & Bazul LLP (Oon & Bazul).

The exact reasons for the arrest are currently unknown, but such action is typical in instances of payment dispute.

The 2008 build, Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) owned and operated vessel is fully laden and at anchor, according to the latest information from VesselsValue.com, who assess SCI Chennai's current market value at $21.25 million.

The 4,468 TEU capacity containership, sister vessel to SCI Mumbai, is one of five box ships in SCI's overall fleet of 59 vessels.

The vessel is the twelfth to be arrested in Singapore this year, and the second by Oon & Bazul.

In January Ship & Bunker reported that last year, ship arrest activity in Singapore fell almost 50 percent over the previous two years.
