Singapore Breaks More Bunker Records as Sales Surge Continues
Having posted record Q1 bunker sales last month, Singapore sold a significant 4,109,700 metric tonnes (mt) of bunkers in April, the latest preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) shows.
The total for all products represents the port's fourth highest sales volume ever, but perhaps more importantly, three of those best ever four months have all happened in 2016, putting the total volume for the first four months of the year at a record 15.9 million mt.
This is a comfortable 11 percent higher than the 14.3 million mt sold during the period last year, itself a record at the time.
Another record set for April 2016 was the volume of Emissions Control Area (ECA) compliant LSMGO sold; at 127,600 mt for the month this was almost 46 percent higher than last month's record volume of 87,500 mt.
April sales of the port's most popular grade, IFO380, totalled 3,068,800 mt and accounted to 74.7 percent of overall sales.
Sales of 500 cSt product totalled 751,200 mt and accounted for 18.3 percent of sales - a proportion that has been typical in recent years.
Also typical was the average stem size for the month, which at 1,129 mt, was just one mt off the six month average stem size of 1,128 mt.
There were 3,641 calls for bunkers during the month, making it the third busiest month ever and just ahead of the 3,640 calls in January.
