Lakdas Panagoda, chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), says Colombo's port will be setting up a cruise terminal due to a growing number of cruise vessel calls, local media reports.

The lack of a dedicated cruise ship terminal at the port is said to be seen by the travel industry as a "drawback."

The SLPA plans to convert Colombo's Bandaranaike Quay into a "fully-fledged international cruise terminal," said Panagoda at the Import Section of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce's annual general meeting.

Last week, the SPLA announced a $400 million investment for the Hambantota Port to construct a repair centre and renew bunkering services in the "near future,"
