2016's Singapore bunker sales surge is showing no signs of slowing down, with the latest preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) indicating August volumes were the second highest monthly total of the year, and the third highest of all time.

Sales for all products in August were 4,228,000 metric tonnes (mt).

August 2016 sales of IFO380 were, as usual, the majority of overall sales with 3,116,600 mt sold.

Sales of 500 cSt material for the month totalled 897,700 mt, and it was only the second time ever the product has represented over 21 percent of the overall total.

With 3,561 calls for bunkers during the month, the average stem size in August was 1,187 mt - slightly above the six and 12 month average of 1,161 mt and 1,138 mt respectively.

The result means the world's biggest bunkering port has seen sales of over 4 million mt in seven of the first eight months of the year.

For reference, the port has only ever seen sales top this level twice before, in August and December last year.

The year-to-date total for the first eight months of the year now stands at 32,727,100 mt, a fullĀ ten percent higher than the same period in 2015 - which was also the previous record high.
