Singapore Thursday registered its first vessel arrest of the year, according to the latest records from the Supreme Court of Singapore.

Following action by local law firm Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP., Jascon 18 was arrested on January 7, 2016 at 9pm.

Ship & Bunker understands the multi-purpose construction support vessel was, until recently, in the final stages of construction.

While it was originally thought the vessel was owned by Sea Trucks Group (Sea Trucks), Ship & Bunker has since been informed that was vessel was sold in March last year.

"In March 2015, Sea Trucks sold a vessel under construction, the 'Jascon 18', to new owners, who are independent of Sea Trucks. These owners engaged Sea Trucks to complete construction of the Jascon 18," Sea Trucks said in a statement released to Ship & Bunker.

A September statement from Sea Trucks Group indicated the vessel was, at the time, in the final stages of outfitting at the Kwong-Soon shipyard in Singapore, and due for delivery in Q3 2015.

Last June Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP. was involved in the arrest of Singapore bunker tanker Sophie 9, the vessel now understood to have been used by controversial bunker supplier Tankoil Marine Services (Tankoil), and heavily implicated in an alleged fraud at now bankrupt OW Bunker's former Singapore subsidiary Dynamic Oil Trading (DOT).
