Second Collision Causes Another Bunker Spill in Singapore
Two vessels collided at Singapore's East Keppel Fairway Thursday morning, damaging a tank and spilling some bunker fuel, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) reports.
The incident occurred the day after another collision south of Jurong Island.
In the Thursday collision, Panama-flagged containership NYK Themis ran into AZ Fuzhou, a barge being towed by the tug AZ Carnation about 4 kilometers south of Marina South.
MPA said its Port Operations Control Centre informed Themis that Fuzhou was in the fairway before the collision.
One of Themis's tanks was damaged, and MPA craft and oil response companies were activated to clean up the spill.
Both vessels are anchored and in stable condition, and no one is reported injured.
The Wednesday incident, involving a chemical tanker and a containership, also resulted in a bunker spill but no injuries or serious damage to the vessels.
