Six people were arrested by Singapore's Police Coast Guard on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in illegal MGO sales, News Asia One reports.

The six, described as "male foreigners" who were the crew of a tugboat, were said to have been siphoning off fuel from their daily usage in order to sell it illegally at a later date.

Between March 25 and April 1 some 2,700 litres of MGO was said to have been siphoned into a separate on-board tank without the owner's knowledge.

The six have also been accused of an illegal transaction on March 24 involving the sale of 3,600 litres of MGO off West Jurong to an unknown vessel for $3,000.

$400 has been seized in relation to the case, which will be heard today.

If convicted the men face possible fines and up to 15 years in jail.
