Skangass has announced it will build a new import terminal for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) at Pori, Finland, following financial support from the Finnish government.

The LNG facility will have storage capacity of 30,000 cubic metres and is expected to be finished by autumn 2016 and Skangass has said it sees this deadline as "highly important."

The Finnish government is supplying NOK185 million (U.S.$29 million) of public funds to Skangass out of an undisclosed total.

"Interest in LNG is found among industrial, shipping as well as heavy-duty land transport customers," said Skangass Sales and Marketing Director Tommy Mattila, but it is unclear whether bunkering facilities will be available at the terminal.

"Skangass wish to create an efficient LNG logistics chain in the Pori area," the company said, however.

Skangass has charterparties with two LNG tankers and currently operates two LNG terminals in Nordic countries.

The Finnish government recently announced it would also invest in three LNG terminals on its Baltic coast.
