The Finnish government's Economics Ministry says it wants to cut down on the use of fuel oil, and has announced it will subsidise the building of three liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals along its coastline which could be used as bunkering facilities, Reuters reports

The Finnish government will contribute €65.2 million ($84.2 million) of an expected total investment of €200 million ($258.3 million) in the terminals which will have a combined capacity of 90,000 cubic metres.

The government was said to be also currently considering investment in a further three LNG terminals.

"These new terminals will help facilitate a move to significantly reduce the industrial use of fuel oil and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) in Finland," said the Economics Ministry in a statement.

"With the help of this support, Manga LNG Oy, Skangass Oy, and Oy Aga Ab will build LNG terminals in Tornio, Pori and Rauma respectively," the Ministry elaborated.

Earlier this year the Finnish government announced it would provide public funds to assist shipowners with environmentally friendly modifications to their vessels.
