The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) says it will be extending its discounts to containerships, which were originally announced in June, until December 31, 2016.

As Ship & Bunker previously reported, SCA announced that container ships coming from Port of Norfolk and its northern ports heading to the ports of Port Kelang and its eastern ports can receive 45 percent discount off normal Suez Canal tolls.

Container ships traveling from ports south of Norfolk to Port Kelang and its eastern ports, are eligible for a 65 percent from the Suez Canal normal toll rates.

Further, container ships coming from ports south of Port of Norfolk bound for the Port of Colombo and its eastern ports are eligible for a 55 percent discount off normal tolls.

In July, SCA put a new discount into effect, providing a 45 percent reduction on transit tolls for very large crude carriers (VLCCs) of at least 200,000 DWT that are in ballast and coming from Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, and the North Coast of South America to the Arabian Gulf.
