Aegean Expands into Russia, Takes on 5 More Former OW Bunker Employees
Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. [NYSE: ANW] (Aegean) today announced it will commence immediate marketing operations in Russia having taken on "five seasoned industry professionals" previously employed by OW Bunker.
The names of the new staff were not revealed, but the bunker supplier said the new operations will include a marketing and business development office located in St. Petersburg that will be dedicated to sales and marketing of marine petroleum products across all Russian ports.
"We remain committed to meeting the increasing demand of our growing global customer base. This expansion is consistent with our opportunistic efforts to diversify our operations and enhance our global footprint," commented Agean president E. Nikolas Tavlarios.
Today's developments mark the fourth time in recent weeks that Aegean has launched new operations by capitalising on the November bankruptcy of OW Bunker.
Last month it took over OW Bunker's operations in the Gulf of Mexico, and Los Angeles and Long Beach, and earlier this month made a similar move in Hamburg.
"We believe that our expansion into Russia, combined with our recent entry into the U.S. Gulf Coast, U.S. West Coast, and German markets, demonstrates our continued actions to strengthen the Aegean network around the world," said Tavlarios.
"We are confident that Aegean is well positioned for continued growth, success and value creation in 2015."
Earlier today Aegean also announced it had appointed Adrian Tolson, the former General Manager of OW Bunker – North America, as Managing Director of its subsidiary, Aegean Oil USA LLC.
