Bomin Linde LNG GmbH & Co. KG (Bomin Linde LNG) says it will supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel to the German passenger ferry MS Ostfriesland under a new deal signed with the ferry's operator, shipping company Aktien-Gesellschaft EMS (AG EMS).

"With Bomin Linde LNG we are happy to be bringing a leading supplier of liquefied natural gas on board," said AG EMS Managing Director Bernhard Brons.

"This makes us the first users of LNG for German passenger ferry services."

The ferry will begin operating on LNG in mid-2014 after a retrofit.

Bomin Linde LNG is preparing to start construction of LNG bunker terminals in Hamburg and Bremerhaven that will act as hubs for the supply of the fuel to neighboring ports.

"We are fully on track with the projects and will be able to provide ships in all German ports along the North and Baltic Sea with LNG as a clean fuel," said Bomin Linde LNG Managing Director Mahinde Abeynaike.

Brons said the terminals were a significant factor in the choice of Bomin Linde LNG as the supplier of the fuel.

The Ostfriesland sails through an ecologically sensitive part of the North Sea, and the switch to LNG bunkers is designed to reduce its environmental impact.
