UK based CWind, a company that helps construct and maintain offshore wind farms, says it has ordered a second fuel-efficient "CWhisper SWATH" workboat.

"The SWATH significantly increases the wave height limits for technician transfer, keeping weather days to a minimum," said Peter Jørgensen, CWind's managing director.

"That and an impressive measured fuel consumption of 100 litres per hour at 20 knots made her an effective vessel."

The 19.5 meter composite workboat is being designed and built by CTruk of Essex.

The company's existing CWhisper SWATH boat, the Astute, launched last August and has supported Siemens' work on the London Array Offshore Wind Farm.

The boats feature a hull form designed to cut through waves rather than ride over them, improving transit comfort for the crew.

CTruk is continuing to optimise the design for the second vessel, which is scheduled for delivery in November 2013.

CWind said in February that, since its founding in 2009, it has logged more than 600,000 working hours in the offshore wind farm sector with no lost time incidents.
