Aegean Boosts Bunker Business in Falmouth
Since setting up bunkering operations at the Port of Falmouth in the United Kingdom late last year, Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. [NYSE: ANW] (Aegean) has attracted 20 ships to the port, increasing trade despite a slight decrease in shipping, local newspaper the Falmouth Packet reports.
Aegean uses three Russian-crewed double-hulled bunkering tankers at the port: the Sara, Syros, and Paxoi, and a new ship, the Naxos, is scheduled to join the fleet and begin operating at Falmouth soon.
Among ships buying fuel from Aegean at the port was the ultra large crude carrier (ULCC) Hanjin Ras Tanura, which recently loaded several thousand tons of heavy fuel oil before proceeding to the Korean Peninsula.
Aegean received permission to start operations at Falmouth in November, allowing it to compete with World Fuel Services (WFS) subsidiary Falmouth Petroleum.
The company said at the time that the new location strengthens its position in supplying marine fuels throughout northwest Europe.
