Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. [NYSE: ANW] (Aegean) has received permission to start bunker deliveries at the Port of Falmouth in the United Kingdom, putting it into competition there with World Fuel Services subsidiary Falmouth Petroleum, local newspaper the Falmouth Packet reports.

"Falmouth Harbour is the third largest natural harbour in the world and is ideally located at the western entrance to the North Sea and English Channel Emissions Control Area (ECA)," Aegean said in a statement.

"The port of Falmouth move expands Aegean's strategic presence in the UK as it currently provides bunkering operations in Portland Harbour and further strengthens the company's position as a leading supplier of marine fuels throughout North West Europe."

The company will provide all grades of marine fuel oil and MGO, with deliveries conducted by four double-hull tankers, the Sara, Syros, and Paxoi, and the soon-to-be delivered MT Naxos.

Falmouth Petroleum's bunkering services at the port operates the barges Seatizen and Cap Mejean.

Bunkering at the port took a downturn this year after the start of new low-sulfur rules in the North American ECA because ships traveling from North America into the European ECA were more likely to have low-sulfur fuels already onboard, eliminating the need to stop at Falmouth.
