Russian natural gas major Gazprom Thursday announced that it is currently in discussions with Belgium-based Fluxys to pursue joint efforts to develop liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure in Europe that would support, among other things, LNG bunkering.

Alexey Miller, Chairman of Gazprom's management committee, is said to have attended a working meeting at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2016 on Thursday with Daniel Termont, Chairman of Fluxys' Board of Directors, and Pascal De Buck, CEO of Fluxys.

The parties are said to have discussed possibilities for cooperation, including joint participation in the development and operation of European-based infrastructure for "receiving, storing and marketing small-scale LNG as a vehicle and bunker fuel, as well as an energy resource for autonomous gasification purposes," explained Gazprom.

Last year, Ship & Bunker reported that a €500 million ($591 million) LNG terminal that was planned for Sillamäe Port, Estonia - a development that was expected bring Gazprom gas into LNG - had been scrapped.
