Bunker Holding Enters Physical Supply Market with ex-OW Bunker Staff
Bunker Holding Group (Bunker Holding) Thursday announced in an emailed press release that it has established a new physical bunker supply company, Unioil Supply A/S (Unioil), staffed by 10 personnel from the now defunct OW Supply & Trading.
Bunker Holding is a well established bunker trading group but the move represents an entry into the physical supply market.
The new company is based in Aalborg, Denmark, where the OW Bunker group had its headquarters.
The move appears to capitalise on the ready-made team left in Aalborg following OW Bunker's collapse, but Bunker Holding said it was part of its strategy to become a niche physical supplier of bunkers.
"As part of its strategy Bunker Holding has decided to enter the physical part of the bunker market," said the company.
"The Group holds no aspiration of becoming a major player in the physical market but has a goal to become a niche supplier in selected strategic areas and ports."
"One of these strategic focus areas is the Nordic region."
Unioil will offer supply trading and physical deliveries of all conventional grades of fuel and gas oil in and around Scandinavia.
Deliveries will be offered by truck and bunker barge.
Swiss trading house Mercuria was recently reported to be looking to hire 40 ex-OW Bunker staff to expand its Asian operations.
