TEN-T Pushing LNG Bunkering Development
The Trans-European Network for Transport (TEN-T) is providing €105 million ($138 million) for seven liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering projects under its 2012 Multi-Annual Call and Annual Call, natural gas industry group NGVA Europe reports.
The funds are part of a total of €1.597 billion ($2.106 billion) for European transport infrastructure projects funded under the program.
TEN-T is providing €1.0 million ($1.3 million) to pay for half the cost of a study covering technical, operational, economic, and legal aspects of bunkering on the Spanish Mediterranean coast, plus another €602,000 ($794,000) for the development of bunkering facilities and procedures in the northwestern Iberian Peninsula.
To support LNG bunkering efforts underway by Vopak LNG Holding B.V., Swedegas and other industry players, TEN-T will provide €34.3 million ($45.3) to cover 20 percent of the costs of an LNG break bulk facility in Rotterdam and a small-scale satellite terminal in Skarvikshamnen, Gothenburg.
Another €1.0 million ($1.3 million) will provide half the cost of studies to determine the feasibility of LNG bunkering in France's Port of Roscoff and Spain's Port of Santander, which will help Brittany Ferries make decisions regarding the construction of LNG vessels.
TEN-T will provide €23.1 million ($30.5 million) to cover 30 percent of the cost of a pilot project implementing an LNG bunker supply at the Port of Brofjorden in Sweden and €40.3 million ($53.2 million) for studies and pilot deployments of LNG bunkers in the Rhine-Main-Danube area as part of a major public-private effort known as Priority Project 18.
Last, Ten-T will provide €5.7 million ($7.5 million), or 35 percent of the cost, for a study of the potential of bio-LNG in the United Kingdom.
Ten-T, a project of the European Union (EU), has been supporting European efforts to create an LNG bunkering infrastructure across the continent.
