UK bunker supplier Geos Group (Geos) Monday announced the start of bunkering operations at its new Port of Blyth, England, bunkering facility.

The company said it had successfully moved product between tanks, brought stock systems on line, and begun sample quality testing last week.

The facility's road loading arm has now been commissioned and fuel delivery by truck has commenced.

"We are delighted to have completed the build and receive the first vessel at our new fuel terminal," said Barry Newton, Geos Group Managing Director.

"The facility is a strategically important new asset and will enhance our bunkering services to existing and new customers alike."

Port of Blyth CEO, Martin Lawlor, added: "I am confident that the terminal and our partnership with the Geos Group will go from strength to strength, with future expansion of the facility a shared objective,"

Last week, Geos said it also plans to offer ex-pipe delivery from the new 15 million litre facility soon.

The company took its first delivery of 1,350 tonnes of bunkers from tanker Shannon Fisher, saying the delivery was "relatively small in volume but huge in significance for the Geos Group, as it marks the launch of Blyth as a major fuelling point for vessels operating in the northeast."

In January, Geos Group announced the opening of a bunkering facility at Great Yarmouth, England, and an expansion of services at Aberdeen, Scotland.
