Marquard & Bahls AG (Marquard & Bahls) today announced that its subsidiary the Bomin Group (Bomin) has expanded physical operations in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region with the addition of two new time-chartered bunker barges.

The development is said to support Bomin’s business strategy of investing in key regions and the expansion of its global infrastructure and resources for long-term growth.

"By strengthening our physical presence in ARA we can enhance our operational flexibility and increase the choice of products we offer to customers in the region," said Jan Christensen, Global Head of Bunker Operations at Bomin.

The bunker barges, which are 3,600 DWT and 3,100 DWT, respectively, are noted to be modern "state-of-the-art" vessels that feature fast pumping rates to maximise delivery process speed.

With the additional bunkering vessels, Bomin has expanded its product offering in the ARA region to include DMC 0.1 percent, DMA 0.86 percent, as well as Ultra Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (ULSFO) for emission control area (ECA) compliance.

The barges will be operated out of Antwerp and support customers in Rotterdam, Ghent, and Vlissingen.

"We are continuing to make significant progress in ensuring our global infrastructure and operations are well developed to meet the fuel supply challenges of our customers," said Christensen.

"Both barges have Coriolis Mass Flow Meters installed to guarantee customers receive the quantity of products that they order, and to drive further operational efficiencies."

In December, as part of the Bomin's efforts to establish four regional hubs - a move it says will strengthen its services worldwide and position the company to better serve its clients into 2020 - the company announced it would close its offices in Rio de Janeiro, Tallinn, and Madrid, as well as its physical supply operations in Estonia and Spain.
