UK Firm Performs First Ship-to-Ship Bunker Transfer
UK fuel and bunkering firm Geos Group said it recently provided its first ship-to-ship fuel transfer.
"An offshore support vessel needed fuel in port, but with no ex-pipe supply available it was facing an extra journey and a lengthy delay in its programme," the company said.
"We were able to berth alongside and fuel the vessel during its operations, and got it on its way quickly."
Ship-to-ship fuel transfers can be useful if access to port facilities is restricted or local fuelling options are unavailable, the company said, but the supplying vessel must have appropriate equipment, crew training, and approvals.
Geos Group said it can provide ship-to-ship transfer of marine gas oil (MGO) at UK east coast ports on a case-by-case basis, subject to a minimum order.
Geos Group was founded as a bunkering a fuel brokerage firm in 2005 and has since expanded into supply, trading, and logistics, according to its website.
