The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has announced it is seeking a new Chief Executive to run the organisation from their headquarters in Southampton, England.

The new Chief Executive will replace Acting Chief Executive, IBIA board member, and maritime arbitrator, Trevor Harrison, who took over in July 2011, when former CEO Ian Adams resigned for family reasons.

IBIA Chairman, Nigel Draffin, said it was an "exciting opportunity for someone with extensive shipping or oil industry experience," representing the interests of the IBIA's 600 strong membership, at the "highest level."

Future Strategy

Reporting directly to the board, the new Chief Executive will head up both the British and Singapore offices and will, among other duties, be involved in "developing and promoting the association with its future strategy."

IBIA was established in 1992 by eight industry organizations and now represents 600 members from 66 countries spanning the international bunker industry, from refiners to shipowners, providing a platform to address all issues affecting the industry.

In 2005, the IBIA attained "consultative status" with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) operating as a non-governmental organisation (NGO), to "ensure that legislators hear the voice of the suppliers and end users of marine fuels."

Interim Chief Executive Trevor Harrison who will resume his position as Maritime Arbitrator, Mediator and Legal Consultant at IBIA once the new appointment has been made, said the role of Acting Chief Executive has been "one of the most interesting and rewarding tasks I have ever undertaken.

"I have had the privilege of managing an association that is bursting with enthusiasm and ideas that a full time Chief Executive will be able to take forward for the benefit of members and the industry as a whole."
