Tallink Sees 3% Efficiency Boost from its ECA Bunkers
Finland-based Neste Corporation (Neste) Friday said that its low sulfur marine fuel offerings have provided emissions control area (ECA) operator AS Tallink Grupp (Tallink) with an average 3 percent energy efficiency increase in its engines compared to HFO.
Tarvi-Carlos Tuulik, Head of Ship Management at Tallink, said the savings were "in addition to the environmentally important feature of low sulfur content."
"We truly appreciate the high quality and steady performing product and the reliability of Neste's fuel supplies."
Currently, Neste offers two marine fuels with a sulfur content of less than 0.1 percent - Neste MDO DMB and Neste RMB - to meet the current requirements of Europe's ECAs.
In comparison to HFO, Neste says its low-sulfur marine fuels burn "much more cleanly than regular heavy fuel oil."
"Thanks to their good flammability, lower need for heating and cleaner burning, the service life of engines increases, operating costs are lower and maintenance intervals are extended," the company adds.
That said, Neste Friday said it was also developing a heavier "RMG-type" product.
As Ship & Bunker reported in January, Neste provides low sulfur marine fuels in all major ports in Finland with deliveries by truck, bunkering vessel, or ex-pipe.
